What you need to know about 10 day stretch of overnight roadworks in Cumbernauld that start today

A series of overnight lane and carriageway closures on the M80 and M73 are set to get underway from Monday 22 June so teams can safely carry out essential maintenance works.

The carriageway closures are required to ensure roadworkers as well as motorists are kept safe during the essential maintenance works and will allow a number of different activities to be carried out at the same time.

The project will involve street lighting upgrades, structural inspections and cyclic maintenance duties including gully cleansing, carriageway sweeping, litter picking and general inspections to ensure the motorway remains in a safe working condition.

Signed diversions will be in place each night as required. There will be no restrictions to traffic during the day outwith these times.

Strict physical distancing protocols, in line with Government guidance, will be in place to ensure teams are kept safe.

Commenting on the works, Carnie Morrison, Highway Management (Scotland) Limited General Manager, said: “These essential maintenance and street lighting upgrade works are being carried out to ensure the M80 and M73 continues to operate safely and remains in a safe working condition for years to come. Teams are also working due to reduced traffic flows as well as working overnight to minimise delays to motorists as much as possible.

“The traffic management is required to ensure that both our teams as well as all road users are kept safe during the essential maintenance works, as well as to maintain social distancing at all times. Teams will do all they can to complete the project as quickly and safely as possible.
