Far East POW service to take place

A remembrance service will be held for all those who served in the Far East during World War II.

Service veterans and members of the public are invited to join provosts Jim Robertson of North Lanarkshire and Ellen Logan of South Lanarkshire on Thursday, August 15, for a service of remembrance for of all those who served in the Far East during World War II.

On August 15, 1945, with the surrender of the Japanese army, World War II finally came to an end.

This day is now recognised as Far East Prisoners of War Day.

The service of remembrance will take place at the war memorial outside the front of the Civic Centre in Motherwell.

The service of remembrance will be led by the Rev Georgina Baxendale, who is minister of South Motherwell Parish Church in the town, and it will begin at 2pm.
