Father and son to tackle Africa’s biggest mountain

A FORMER Kilsyth Academy teacher and his son are preparing to make an assault on Africa’s highest peak, all in the name of Strathcarron Hospice.

Later this month, David Tolmie (58) and son Stuart (31) will jet off to Tanzania to tackle Mount Kilimanjaro via the Machame Route.

The hike will see them ascend an incredible 19,700 feet over a gruelling period of six days.

Stuart said: “It is the biggest challenge I’ve ever taken, it’s the same for my dad. But it’s for a great cause so it will be well worth it.”
