Fears for teachers' jobs

TEACHERS' union the EIS is warning its members and the general public to take a long, hard look at North Lanarkshire Council's proposed education cuts.

The council has to make savings of around 55million over the next two years and has distributed a 16-page consultation leaflet to households across the district covering some of the proposals.

EIS Lanarkshire branch secretary Ricky Cullen said: "It is vitally important that our members, along with fellow union members and the general public, consider very carefully the full range of possible budget cuts being put forward for consultation and make their views known about the impact these would have on service provision in North Lanarkshire.

A council spokesperson said: "No final decisions about savings have yet been taken. That's why we're consulting with our residents, employees and trade unions, gathering their views on the current options."
