Firefighters help kids get on their bike

A COMMUNITY event which provided an enjoyable day out for locals last month has also succeeded in raising an impressive sum for special needs children.

Cumbernauld Fire Station’s open day help raised £1700 for Redburn School – and firefighters have now handed over the sum to head teacher Sheila Kerr.

Mrs Kerr now plans to put the money to very good use, for something that’s a bit different too.

As some of the pupils have a physical disabilities, staff are keen to acquire bicycles for the pupils which can accommodate a wheelchair.

Station commander Eddie Finnieston told the News and Chronicle: “Staff at Cumbernauld worked tirelessly on this open day and were delighted to raise this magnificent amount.’’
