First tenants for new housing

THE first tenants have moved into the St Mungo’s Gate affordable housing development in Seafar.

The £1.7 million project, consisting of 14 two-bedroomed flats, was designed and built by Frank Haslam Milan. The Scottish Government invested over £500,000 in the scheme.

Provost of North Lanarkshire, Jim Robertson said, “It was a pleasure to open Link’s new £1.7m housing development at St. Mungo’s Gate in Cumbernauld.

“Projects like this not only provide homes which are warm, safe and energy efficient but also help support the construction industry and provide local employment.

“Low cost affordable properties are essential across communities. And new homes, such as the ones at St. Mungo’s gate, are to be applauded. Providing affordable homes is a priority and that’s why North Lanarkshire Council is investing £150m in its new house building programme, with plans for 1,000 new builds by 2020.

“I wish Link every success with their plans for further housing developments here in North Lanarkshire and the tenants who live in these fabulous new homes, a very happy future indeed.”

Some of the flats are in the “intermediate rent” bracket. Starting at £400 per month, these properties are specifically designed for working people and families.

Each home has gas central heating and hot water water systems, high quality insulation and double glazing to help keep fuel costs down.

Elsewhere in Cumbernauld, Link is also currently working on the construction of 33 homes at Carradale Crescent in Broadwood and will also soon commence phase two Oakwood Cumbernauld.
