Fishing plan could hook the tourists

A NEW complex to the south-west of Kilsyth could be set to boost tourism in the area.

A developer has applied to create three large fishponds and build a boathouse at the Portcullis Estate, better known as 'The Gun Range', on Kilsyth Road.

A manager's house, an office and a car park will also be constructed on the 17 hectare site.

At last week's meeting of Kilsyth Community Council, chairman Scott Johnson praised the project.

He said: "It will be ponds and lakes that let you fish from the side of them.

"They're putting in some quite attractive chalet-style buildings as well."

Due to the nature of the development, a community consultation process is to be undertaken.

Vice-chairman Jim Hutchison said: "It's a pigsty just now, so anything that tidies it up a bit is more than welcome. I think it will be good for the area."

Chairman Scott Johnson added: "I think we should respond with positive support for the application.

"It will be a good boost for tourism in the area and bring visitors to the town.

"It'll tidy up that site as well ,which can only be a benefit. I think it will be a success there."
