Flaming good fun at Cumbernauld fire station’s open day

Station Commander John McShane was delighted with the response shown by the community to the open day. “It was fantastic, always busy through the entire day. People were really keen to come along and support us, and we had great weather as well which always helps. I’d like to thank everyone who attended as well as the partner organisations who contributed to the event, and also the News and Chronicle for helping put the word out.”

These partner organisations included NHS Lanarkshire, North Lanarkshire Council and Clyde Football Club, who gave away match tickets and football kit.

In total, £750 was raised for good causes, and this will be shared between the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, which is locally based, and the Strathclyde Fire and Rescue Family Support Trust, which helps firefighters and their families when they need assistance.

“The fundraising side of this was secondary to engaging with the community,” added Mr McShane. “The feedback we got was really positive and lots of visitors asked us to hold it every year.”
