FURIOUS residents turned out in droves at Burngreen Hall in Kilsyth to vent their anger about proposals to build more than 2000 homes on Green Belt land.

The agenda for the meeting of Kilsyth Community Council included a discussion about the changes that could be imposed on the local plan by the Scottish Government. The situation has arisen as North Lanarkshire Council had been told by planners at Holyrood that the current blueprint contains an insubstantial number of sites for affordable housing, a point the local authority disputes.

The public gallery swelled as more than 50 bemused Kilsythians turned up to have their say on the matter.
