Funeral details announced for Cumbernauld’s Jim and Ann

Funeral details have finally been announced for Cumbernauld couple Jim and Ann McQuire who were tragically killed in Tunisia.

We can confirm that the service will take place at Abronhill Parish Church at 2pm on Friday, July 10 at 2pm and at Daldowie Crematorium thereafter.

The devoutly Christian couple who contributed so much to the life of their church were among the four Scots who died in the attack which took place on Friday, July 26. The death toll was 38 and 30 of the deceased were British.

A service of remembrance has already been held at the church so family, friends and neighbours could band together in an early tribute to the much-loved pair.

The church minister Rev Joyce Keyes has expressed thanks for expressions of support which have flooded in.

She said: “The church has been inundated with messages and expressions of support, in the form of flowers, cards, emails, prayers and words of comfort both for the McQuire family and for the church community. There have been messages from people who knew Ann and Jim, and from many who didn’t, even from a BB company in England.

“The church was full last Friday when we opened it for prayer and reflection, and to allow people to observe the nationwide minute’s silence together. During the gathering the local congregation and community were joined by the local Roman Catholic priest Father Joe McAuley, the Moderator of Falkirk Presbytery George McDonald and the minister of Condorrat Parish Church Rev Grace Saunders. There was also a significant BB representation, as well as neighbours and former work colleagues.

“A book of condolence was opened on Friday which has already been signed by hundreds of people, and it will remain available at least until after the funeral service next Friday. Many people have been touched by the tragic deaths of people enjoying their holiday, even more so when they include folk you know – people from your own community.”
