The community of Abronhill gathered today for the funeral of Tunisia terror victims Ann and Jim McQuire, who were among 38 people shot dead on a beach two weeks ago.
Abronhill Parish Church, which had played a huge part in the McQuires’ lives, was filled with mourners including their son Stuart, his wife Nicola and and those of Jim’s five sisters who were able to attend.
Outside the church hundreds more stopped to pay their respects, including an honour guard from the Boys’ Brigade. Jim was a local captain in the youth movement, and Ann’s assistance was also much valued by the organisation.
Ahead of the service, Stuart McQuire prepared this statement on behalf of his family: “My mum and dad will be sorely missed by my wife and I, the rest of the family and the wider community. They were a couple devoted to each other and who lived to enjoy life. They spent their lives contributing so much to the community. Through their many interests they made many friends and helped many causes within and outwith the church.
“On behalf of myself and the family, I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, cards and messages. It is overwhelming the support we have had and that so many people have been touched by these tragic circumstances.”
