Future of Cumbernauld Academy and theatre caught up in funding row
The oft-heralded £30 million replacement for Cumbernauld Academy, which will incorporate the next premises for Cumbernauld Theatre, is being delayed due to issues with its funding.
Following the events in Greece, changes to European Union legislation on public-funded buildings mean that doubts have emerged over the Scottish Government’s slice of the funding.
The Scottish Government has retorted by saying North Lanarkshire Council gave an unconditional guarantee that the new school after Cumbernauld Academy was established through the merger of two secondary schools.
