Get ready to Zumba

A CUMBERNAULD-based Zumba instructor is looking for participants to help in a major charity Zumbathon and a world record attempt.

Joanne Forsyth (36), from Smithstone, is set for a busy summer. She’s setting her sights on helping to raise £60,000 for a young boy with cerebral palsy to have a vital operation in America, and taking part in a world record-breaking Zumbathon attempt in London.

Joanne said: “Through a friend I found out about a young boy from Coatbridge who has the chance to get this life-changing operation in America. But it costs £60,000 so I’m hosting a massive 800-person capacity Zumbathon in Ravenscraig to help raise cash for it.

“I’ve got about 600 people so far but we want more because it’s an amazing opportunity and it’s only £10 per head.

“There’s a time-scale of when he can get the operation so we need as many people getting involved as possible.”

The Zumbathon will be held on Sunday, June 5, between 1pm and 4pm at the Ravenscraig Sports Facility in Motherwell and entry will cost £10.

Joanne added: “I teach about 500 people each week at my classes and it’s such a great way to stay fit, meet people and have a laugh. Now we’ve got an opportunity to help change someone’s life through doing what we love.”

Joanne will also be taking part in a national event in London which will look to set a new world record for the biggest synchronised Zumbathon.
