Gym could fix it for Steven

Steven Reynolds (25), is the owner of local business Micro Fitness, which aims to encourage health and well-being among children by getting them involved in fun fitness activities.

Steven has been short-listed in the Lloyds TSB Enterprise Awards and is through to the regional final. If he wins he could stand the chance of landing a whopping £50,000.

“It’s amazing to have got this far and it’s great to have something that is not only very enjoyable but can benefit people to the extent that it does,” said Steven.

“It’s just a phenomenal feeling.”

Fitness enthusiast Steven has a firm grounding in the local community with a base at Ravenswood Primary School and a thriving relationship with other schools in the area.

Micro Fitness works by encouraging children to engage in a wide range of healthy activities, such as cardio and gym work, by offering classes and activities in a scaled down and colourful environment.

Steven said: “I used to work at the Tryst, getting involved in the summer programmes, but I realised that those programmes rely on parents taking their kids to sports centres and I thought there must be a better way to make health and fitness available to more children.”

He added: “Fitness must be fun, that’s the main thing. We’re looking to tackle the obesity epidemic in the country by making children aware of a more healthy life style.

“It’s all about getting kids more motivated and if we can combine fitness and fun then our job is done.”

Rachel Coull, head teacher at Ravenswood, said: “The children love the classes that Steven runs. The children got to experience a 10-week programme we ran and it wasn’t enough for them, they wanted to do further blocks every year. We wish him all the best in the competition.”
