Have your say on town centre

North Lanarkshire Council has published a draft Town Centre Framework and Action Plan, which has been produced after extensive consultations carried out over the last year and a half, including public meetings and workshops, a survey, town centre health check and drop-in sessions.

The Framework sets out principles to guide growth and change in the town centre and help make it more resilient in the current economic climate. The Action Plan then provides a basis for partnership working to improve the environment, facilities and services in the town centre.

A consultation will begin on March 24 to get the views of residents, shoppers and businesses on these draft documents.

“Town centres are a vital part of the local economy, as they provide jobs, amenities, homes and services for many people,” said Councillor James Coyle, Convener of the Planning and Transportation Committee.

“They are facing tough economic challenges and to survive everyone involved needs to use their local knowledge and work together to create a viable future for our town centres.

“It’s important that as many people as possible take part in this consultation, so that we produce a final plan that will meet the needs of all those who use Cumbernauld town centre.”

The draft action plan is available to download from the council’s web site – www.northlanarkshire.gov.uk/Cumbernauldconsultation - and paper copies are available in Abronhill, Condorrat and Cumbernauld libraries.

The deadline for comments on the consultation is 4.15pm on Friday, May 30.
