Help available for energy costs

NEW research shows that 5,200 households in Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch could be entitled to help with their energy costs this winter.

Local MP Gregg McClymont is encouraging people to call a free helpline to find out what assistance is available.

The Home Heat Helpline - on 0800 33 66 99 - is a free and confidential service that connects people and families on low incomes and those in poor health with support which is worth an average of £160.

The help available includes grants for insulation, new boilers, and discount and rebate schemes.

Mr McClymont said: “As energy prices continue to rise despite growing profits, I know that many people will be worried about their bills this winter. Now that the cold weather is setting in this is the ideal time to remind people in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth what help is available to them.

“I would ask people to look out for neighbours, friends or relatives who may be in difficulty and make sure they are aware of the Home Heat Helpline.

“With 14 per cent of households in the constituency eligible for some kind of support, a lot of people could save some money and have warmer homes this winter.”
