Help for Cumbernauld’s owl population

THE Scottish Wildlife Trust is preparing to help Cumbernauld’s owl population by giving them a batch of new homes.

The species has been hit with deteriorating wildlife conditions and a lack of suitable habitats.

However, the SWT has received funding from the People’s Postcode Lottery and aims to create a total of six barn owl nesting boxes in three of their Cumbernauld reserves.

Patricia Stewart, chairwoman of the Cumbernauld branch said: “I would like to offer students from Cumbernauld College and from local schools the opportunity to give us a hand putting the boxes up.”

John Simpson, member of the Scottish Raptor Study Group added: “Boxes are becoming essential for the survival of one of Scotland’s iconic species.”
