Historian Jim pens new book on Kilsyth’s past

The publication is the latest work from local historian and community councillor Jim Hutchison, and is entitled “Canal Boats and Miners Rows: Kilsyth 1750 – 1970”.

It is the culmination of a year’s worth of work and contains more than 100 striking pictures taken from both the North Lanarkshire Council archives and the George C. Cassidy collection.

Jim said: “It puts Kilsyth and district into context of world events.

“It covers the likes of sport and entertainment during the Victorian times and what life was like in the town during the First and Second world wars.

“There’s also bits on the church revivals and Bonnie Prince Charlie.

“The last year or so I’ve collected a lot of material and I feel a lot of it is new.

“I wanted to link it to how the town was affected by events happening in the wider world.”
