Historic shows with Cumbernauld connection ready for broadcast

A documentary made in part by a local man will finally be screeened on Armistice Day on the centenary of the first world war.

Earlier this year we reported that amateur historian Alan Cumming had travelled over to Serbia with a production crew to make two television programme about a pioneering group of women.

Alan who lives in Condorrat runs a website that puts the focus on the Scottish women’s hospitals.

He was asked to collaborate with both STV and BBC Alba to make programmes dedicated to these remarkable women who defied the War Office in their bid to help the wounded.

His research on the subject started when he visited the Serbian capital of Belgrade to watch football and discovered a memorial to the women.

The Women Who Went To The War will be screened on Tuesday, November 11 at 8pm. The programme will be narrated by Kirsty Wark.Another programme made with Alan’s help called A Great Adventure will be screened on BBC Alba on Sunday November 9 at 9pm.
