The cash comes from Persimmon Homes West Scotland, which has already given away more than £18,000 to good causes since the launch of its Community Champions scheme in January 2016.

Now the company is inviting applications from more good causes in its region that covers Glasgow, Argyll and Bute, Ayrshire, East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire.

The Community Champions scheme began last year allowing charities and groups to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves. Nationally Persimmon Homes has donated over £700,000 in total across the UK in the first 12 months of programme.

Some of the causes to benefit so far include the West Scotland division of Red Cross, which got £1000 to buy a new defibrillator.

And one special needs club received a £500 cash boost to provide sports kit, craft materials and a printer as well as presents for every member to enjoy at Christmas.

Doug Law, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “We have donated thousands of pounds to worthy causes in our area and we want to see more groups coming forward with their applications.

“Two Community Champions are selected each month and we are donating up to £1,000 to each.

“This has gone on to help organisations and groups already and we have had positive feedback as to how they have been helped.

“I’d encourage charities, community groups and organisations to apply and hopefully they will be the next Persimmon Homes Community Champion.”
