Huge lamb born four times average weight

This not-so-little Texel cross ewe lamb was born at Huntington Farm, Lauder, early on Tuesday morning.

The lamb, which weighed in at an outstanding 28lbs – yes, really – was helped into the world by lambing man John Ainslie.

The average lamb is usually around 7lbs.

Pictured is farmer Dougie Runciman with the large lamb and another normal-sized one, born at the same time, as a comparison.

After enquiring about the poor mum, Dougie’s wife, Heather, said: “Surprisingly, she’s doing really well. It took her an hour before she got to her feet, but she’s up feeding and just loves her lamb!”
