They have been urged to give the housing group behind the massive £70 million scheme a clear indication whether they are for or against the proposals.

And the boss of Sanctuary Cumbernauld has pledged: “We will abide by the majority view - even if it is against change.”

But an action group opposing the handling of the scheme this week accused the housing assoc-iation of using “scare tactics” to persuade people to vote for demolition.

Sanctuary has begun a series of drop-in information sessions, with the next scheduled for tomorrow (Thursday) at Cumbernauld College, from 3.30-7pm. An independent firm is to conduct a door-to-door survey to find out what people think.

The affected homes are in 12 high-rise blocks in Allanfauld Road, Hume Road, Seafar House, Burns Road and Fleming Road.
