James goes on the run for cancer charity

A CONDORRAT man has taken up the challenge of running the Virgin London Marathon next month to raise £1500 to help leukaemia patients.

James Cooper (40) is striving to raise money for national charity Leukaemia CARE - after seeing first-hand the help that it gives.

He said: "I suffered with cancer seven years ago, and whilst in hospital I was struck by the number of children suffering far worse than I was with leukaemia, so running for Leukaemia CARE was the obvious choice.

"From my own experiences this is a very worthwhile cause so please give as much as you can afford."

Despite the difficult financial climate, the charity is hoping that this year's London Marathon (on April 25) will be the most successful yet and urges people to support runners like James. (pictured).

Hoping to beat his impressive personal best of four hours and 15 minutes, achieved in 2008, James has been busy training despite the bad weather.

The money he raises will go towards running the charity's flagship service, the CARE Line, which brings support to those in need.

Eve Martin, Leukaemia CARE's fundraising director, said: "People like James and those that support him are so important to us.

"In times when people and businesses have little money to spare, their generosity is hugely important as it means that we can ensure that everyone who needs our help is able to receive it."

Leukaemia CARE helps patients, their families and carers through diagnosis and treatment of blood and lymphatic cancer.
