JJ-Bursting at the seams - safety fears over crowds in Cumbernauld sports shop.

CONCERNS have been raised over health and safety in a popular sports shop which has been bursting with customers since announcing an administration sale.

Customers have been pouring into JJB sports shop in Cumbernauld’s Antonine Shopping Centre since the company announced it was in administration.

The News and Chronicle reported last week that the store in the town has been taken over by rivals Sports Direct saving a total of 11 jobs.

But new owners Sports Direct have to get rid of the JJB stock, and they are doing exactly that by slashing 50 per cent off the last marked price.

Customers have been waiting in queues up to an hour while stock lies around the store including on pathways.

The sale is expected to last up to three weeks before Sports Direct takes over officially with their stock.

But one concerned customer, who did not want to be named, believes that health and safety is being breached. He said: “No company I have seen would allow customers into a mess like JJB have, and it makes it worse when it’s not on ground level.

“I am surprised they have not been forced to close as if for any reason there was an evacuation, there’s that many boxes littering the place and that many people it would be a health and safety nightmare.”
