John John Trust to hold ceilidh

On November 5 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Glasgow, the John John Trust will hold its annual ceilidh.

The John John Trust is named after Cumbernauld teenager John McGladrigan, who in 2004 tragically drowned at the age of 19 while volunteering in Ghana. John, a former pupil of Our Lady’s High School, had promised a couple of Ghanaian children he befriended that he would help pay for their education,

Said Anne Power of the Trust: “After John’s death lots of people started giving money to his parents, and from this the idea to start a trust developed, in order to keep the promise John made to pay those children’s school fees. We’ve gone from strength to strength ever since.”

Today, the charity supports children in Ghana, Kenya, Zambia and Uganda and has also supplied books and improved school buildings. And one of the children John made his original promise to is now in university.
