Kilsyth author speaks about his latest release

A KILSYTH author who is known for his nostalgic pictorial books will surprise fans with his latest release.

William Chalmers, of Howe Road, had planned to write a new historical play on the miners but through his research he decided to publish the book Conversations, The Way We Were, A Hundred Years of Social History.

The 75-year-old explained: “The book originally came from an idea to write a play. When I went to get the information I needed, people would give me photographs and tell me the story behind them.

“I would sit and blether for ages with them and this is when I decided to write the book.

“It’s about the twists and turns of their lives and the misfortunes they encountered.”

William also hopes the book will help those researching their family history in years to come as the people in conversation are giving their own first account of their past.

Fans of his original Times Past series will be pleased to hear he has released the latest edition on Co-op The Store.

He said: “The Co-op was an organisation that gave people a fair deal back then and this book through pictures shows its history in the area.”
