Kilsyth baker A. Rennie & Sons has been highly commended in this year’s Scottish Baker of the Year Awards for its hugely popular Empire Biscuit.
It is a traditional treat hearkening back to the days of Queen Victoria, but is as popular now as ever.
The certificate was presented by Mich Turner MBE at a glittering ceremony hosted by Scottish Bakers, the association that supports and promotes the interests of Scottish Bakers across the country.
The firm’s Alastair Rennie said: “We are extremely pleased to be recognised in this way.
“We take our business very seriously and use traditional methods and craftsmen’s skills to deliver quality every time.
“But we could not have come this far in the competition without our dedicated and skilled team, and without the votes of all of our customers, Thank you.”
Scottish Bakers asked customers across Scotland to vote for their favourite bakery items in various categories.
Gordon McGhee, outgoing president of the Scottish Bakers and himself a baker, said: “For every baker who was entered by a customer, for all of our shortlisted bakers and for all of our members who helped and supported us, I offer my warmest congratulations.”
