Or, in this case, a patio in Ruskin Place, Kilsyth.

The victim is a garden gnome replica of DreamWorks’ lovable green hero, described by his owner Elsie Black (60) as being two foot tall and, well, looking like Shrek.

However, though the thief is no doubt proud of their trophy, Elsie says the moulded clay statue is of special significance to her family.

And now she’s pleading for Shrek’s return.
