Lads leg it for wax session

Rugby players from Cumbernauld College have managed to pay for a trip to Italy, with their hair.

The group of 21 managed to raise the money, for the cultural exchange trip, by having the NQ Beauty students wax their legs.

This event, paired with other fund raisers, will help the boys travel to take part in the Leonardo da Vinci Programme, an initiative organised by the European Union.

The players will travel to Viadana for a two week training camp where they will train and work with top professionals. Along with the training, the boys will also be able to go on cultural trips around the country. Amongst the players heading to Italy is, Scotland under 19 player, Tom Steven.

He said: “It was a nervous experience having my legs waxed. I was very scared but the massage at the end was nice, it made it worth it.”

Looking forward to the trip he added: “I can’t wait to get out there, as it will be a good experience. This is my second trip and last year it was brilliant.

“It’s great to train in a different country and to get to see what it would be like to be a professional player.”

With the sponsored wax bringing in almost £800 the squad are not far off of reaching their £1,200 target for their exciting trip.

Sports lecturer, David Mitchell said: “For many students this trip will be the first time they have been away from home. It is a great experience and it will really help improve their social development skills, as well as their rugby ability.”
