Lanarkshire community hero nominations sought

THE search is on for Lanarkshire’s ‘unsung hero’ - a person whose contribution to their local community has, until now, gone unrecognised.

And the chosen candidate is in line for an experience of a lifetime: attending the Commonwealth Carnival of Music at Westminster Hall in London.

The event is on July 2 to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Commonwealth Year of Culture and the Cultural Olympiad.

Along with the unsung hero, a young performer, musician, singer, dancer or other artist, will also be chosen to represent the county. Each nominee can be accompanied by a friend or relative.

Nominations are being organised through the Lord Lieutenant’s office.

Lord Lieutenant for Lanarkshire Mushtaq Ahmad said: “This promises to be a once-in a lifetime experience.

“We are looking for two people to represent Lanarkshire: an unsung hero who has so far gone unrecognised and a young performer.”

Nomination should be sent to: Lanarkshire Lieutenancy Office, Civic Centre, Windmillhill Street, Motherwell ML1 1AB or email: [email protected] by Monday, April 2.
