A LIFELINE has been ripped out of the community of Banton after the only newsagent in the village shut up shop.
Angry locals have been left stranded when it comes to buying daily essentials like bread and milk as a result of closure over two weeks ago.
Wendy Hoyle, chairwoman of Banton Community Council, who campaigned with others to save the town’s only Post Office before it closed and championed the importance of supporting Banton Village Store says the owners gave very little warning before they shut for good.
She said: “It has left us very vulnerable as we are used to having a shop in the village. Over a third of the population is of pension age and it will be very difficult for them.”
The community, however, has rallied together and Councillor Jean Jones has arranged for Burns of Kilsyth ice cream van to make regular visits with the essentials.
