Lilly is in the pink after tumour op

THE poor abandoned Jack Russell terrier cross, who was handed in to Cumbernauld Police Station a few weeks ago, is recovering after an operation to remove the huge tumour growing next to her tail.

She was named Lilly by staff at the Scottish SPCA's Lanarkshire Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Hamilton, who originally feared they would not be able to operate due to the size of the growth.

However, last Wednesday, vets managed to successfully remove the tumour and say they are hopeful she will pull through.

Anne Shilliday, who is the vet at the Scottish SPCA's Hamilton centre, said: "We successfully removed a 300g growth from Lilly in surgery, which is a significant mass for a dog that only weighs 8kgs in total. A sample from the growth has been sent away for testing, so we will not know the long-term prognosis for Lilly until this comes back.

"It's still early days and the wee dog is quite tender after her operation, but we've no doubt she's glad to be free from the growth and she remains comfortable in her kennel at present."

Inspectors are still attempting to bring Lilly's callous former owners to justice. If you have any information that could help, call their Animal Helpline on 03000 999 999.
