Lithuanian delegation visits Cumbernauld College

A delegation from Lithuania visited Cumbernauld College recently to get a taste of the work that is being done at the education facility.

The visit was part of a project called Discovering European Taste (Scotland), and the group of teachers and restaurateurs from Lithuania spent a week at the college learning about how the courses are delivered.

Funded by the European Union and part of the Leonardo Mobility Programme, the scheme allows staff in vocational learning to experience best practice.

The college organised a range of activities for the nine Lithuanians including training in the catering and travel and tourism facilities, meetings with staff to discuss teaching methodologies, teaching demonstrations and visits to a variety of workshops.

The group also took part in cultural visits including a trip to Edinburgh to look at the tourism outlets and how the city promotes its services, and a tour of the Dakota Hotel, to get an insight into the operation of a top hotel.

Jim O’Donnell, external funding manager at Cumbernauld College, said: “It was great to take part in the Discovering European Taste (Scotland) project. With the visit from the Lithuanian delegation it was a great chance to promote what Cumbernauld College has to offer.

“As well as the various presentations and trips, the group also had lunch in our Taste restaurant, served by students studying the City and Guilds Diploma in Introduction to Professional Cookery course.

“We wanted to arrange an engaging and enjoyable trip which showed off not just the college but also the country. The feedback from the group has been really positive.”
