Local factory wins award

LOCAL glassmaker Pilkington Cumbernauuld recently won an industry award.

Pilkington Cumbernauld, which has occupied a purpose-built factory in Westfield Industrial Estate since 2006, is the new G11 Glass Company of the Year.

The firm, a branch of Pilkington UK, was awarded this title at the G11 Awards. In the time since moving to its current factory, productivity has doubled. Products made in Cumbernauld include Pilkington K Glass S. Pilkington Cumbernauld has been particularly praised for its ability to meet orders “On Time and In Full”, and achieving a high standard of environmental management.

Branch manager Jim Davidson said: “We are thrilled to win such a prestigious award at the glass and glazing event of the year. Winning the Glass Company of the Year Award is especially pleasing and recognises the team effort of everyone, including factory staff, management team and the office staff. The award is based on our overall performance and the judges also recognised our work on continuous improvement projects, such as exploring new and innovative ways of supplying and delivering glass effectively and economically.”
