Margaret reaches her 100th year

A GRAND old lady from Banton turned 100 last week – and celebrated with 60 guests at a party in Kilsyth!

Margaret Macdonald was born at a point when the world was on the cusp of great change.

For 1912 was when the Titanic sank, sufragettes protested, airships took to the skies, catastrophic unrest was brewing in the Balkans and Captain Scott arrived at the South Pole.

Yet widow Margaret has survived and thrived and received her special birthday greeting from another lady (pictured) who has some way to go in the age stakes to compete with Banton’s oldest resident!

Mailings Road resident Margaret is originally from Haggs but has lived in Banton for four decades.

And she is able to live solo albeit with assisted round-the-clock care.

She is a very popular member of Banton Baptist Church and the fact that she received 100 birthday cards would attest to just how well loved she is!

There were no gifts received however – as donations were made to Strathcarron Hospice in lieu of presents at Margaret’s request.
