Michael Murphy appeal successfully funds new playhouse

Michael suffers from a rare genetic disorder that affects him in many ways and the family wants him to have his own space where he can play in safety.

The Co-op team responded to an appeal in the Chronicle and raffled off a hamper, raising £660. The money was handed over to Michael’s mum Fiona in the store on Monday.

Team leader Mark Bellingham said: “When we read in the Chronicle about Michael’s appeal we wanted to help and decided to hold the raffle in support. A big thank you goes to all the customers who helped us raise this amount and we’re planning to hold another raffle in support of another good local cause.

“Anyone who wishes to nominate an organisation or individual to benefit should enquire in-store.”

A delighted Fiona said: “My husband’s boss, Robert Aitken of RDA Scaffolding, donated £1175 after the article appeared and we got some online donations too. We have now made our target and work on the playhouse is getting underway.

“I can’t thank the people of Kilsyth enough for the way they have supported us, it has been amazing. This was once a dream but now it is a reality.

“Once the playhouse is finished we’d like to hold a little open day to say thank you to everyone.”
