Missing girls turn up safe

TWO teenage girls, who went missing from Kilsyth on Saturday night, turned up ‘safe and well’ the following afternoon.

A misunderstanding was blamed for the apparent disappearance of Kelly Ann Rae (13), of Alexander Avenue, Twechar, and Amy Fleming (13), of Park Lane, Kilsyth.

The pair were seen leaving Amy’s home at 8.45pm on Saturday night, saying they were on the way to meet a friend.

However, by early Sunday morning, their parents had not heard from the youngsters and Strathclyde Police launched a search for them.

Initial efforts made to trace the 13 year-olds were unsuccessful.

Thankfully, both girls returned to their respective homes on Sunday afternoon. They said they had been staying at a friend’s house.

The teenagers were out of contact with their families for approximately 20 hours.

Sergeant Evelyn Struthers, from Kirkintilloch Police Office, said: “Both girls returned home safe and well and are now with their families.”
