Moodiesburn man dies in car smash

A MAN from Moodiesburn has been named as one of the people killed in a recent road accident.

Two lorry drivers died after the head-on crash on the A9, at Dalnamein, at around 2.25am on Friday, June 1.

Last week Tayside Police released the names of the two fatalities - Alex Russell (37), from Moodiesburn, and John Sommerville (34), from Carluke.

A police spokesperson said: “Both families are understandably upset by their sudden loss and have said that they will both be greatly missed.

“They do not wish to make any further comments and have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time,” he added.

Police enquiries into the full set of circumstances behind the tragedy are ongoing.
