More time for hospital visitors

NHS Lanarkshire has introduced new flexible visiting hours.

The new arrangements mean that people can now visit wards in local hospitals anytime between 2pm and 8pm every day.

The new flexible times have been introduced across all wards, however, there are some ward areas that may need to put some restrictions in place in order to ensure that patient treatment is not compromised. Where this happens, staff will engage with families and visitors to explain.

Joan James, acute division nurse director, said: “We hope that the introduction of these new visiting times will offer patients more time with their loved ones and allow people to visit when it is most convenient for them.”

MSP Jamie Hepburn also welcomed the news. He said: “This is great news and will make a positive difference to the experience both of those staying in hospital and their visitors.

“Everyone knows how difficult it is when a friend or loved one is hospitalised and the decision to introduce more flexibility to visiting hours could really help all involved through potentially hard times.”
