Mystery surrounds Cumbernauld Flying School closure

Cumbernauld Flying School appears to have shut down without notification, quietly departing Cumbernauld Airport.

The business, run by Edward Veitch, was set up at Cumbernauld Airport in 1999. However recently the premises have failed to open.

Enquiries with Companies House, which keeps the register of UK companies, revealed that Cumbernauld Flying School is the subject of a motion to strike off. Any creditors are advised to contact them immediately.

But the flying school’s accountants seemed unaware it had stopped trading when contacted by a News and Chronicle reporter.

The matter is under investigation by consumer watchdog agencies.

David Roderick, trading standards manager at North Lanarkshire Council, said: “We have received information about enquiries made to Consumer Direct relating to Cumbernauld Flying School, and are in the process of looking into them. We’d also like to thank the Cumbernauld News for bringing the matter to our attention.”

He said that anyone wishing to register a complaint about this company, or seeking advice about vouchers purchased and not yet honoured, should contact Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06, or their Trading Standards office.

He added: “In general terms, anyone buying vouchers should check the background of the business before spending their money and use a credit rather than debit card. If in doubt, contact trading standards.”
