North Lanarkshire Council is investing £75 million in its Building for the Future programme which will deliver 500 new council homes over five years.

A total of 29 affordable new homes are being built on the site for the council by Wates Living Space, including 21 terraced and eight semi-detached houses. One of the properties will be purpose-built for a young person who uses a wheelchair and will enable them to have an improved quality of life by having all their living accommodation accessible on one level.

“Across North Lanarkshire we are building modern, quality and energy efficient new homes for our tenants,” said Councillor Barry McCulloch, convener of housing and social work services.

“This open day gives local people a chance to see for themselves the type and standard of housing we are delivering. All the homes at Westfield should be completed and occupied in the next few months, helping address the demand for council housing locally in Cumbernauld.

“Tenants who have already moved into the new houses built elsewhere in North Lanarkshire are delighted with the space, the quality of build and the features such as kitchens and bathrooms.”

All the properties built under the Building for the Future programme will achieve the Housing for Varying Needs Standards and are designed to achieve at least a ‘Good’ Eco-Homes Standards rating.

Car parking for the open day at Westfield will be available within St Maurice’s High School on North Road, which is directly across from the housing development. Access to view the new houses should only be made via the entrance to the site. Visitors should report to a member of staff before entering any of the houses.
