New MP opens the doors on a week of music and entertainment

An art and music event will host Stuart McDonald MP for his first public engagement since becoming an elected representative.

Campsie Mayfest’s opening reception is being held in Milton of Campsie Village Hall on Friday, May 22, in Stuart’s hometown.

The art exhibition and opening reception starts at 5pm on Friday and 80 original paintings will be displayed by Milton of Campsie Art Club with fairtrade drinks and nibbles and live music.

It will also be open the following day, Saturday at 1.30pm until 7pm and reopens on Sunday at 1.30pm until 5pm and all paintings are for sale.

Campsie Memorial Hall hosts the art and photography competition ‘What Campsie Means to Me’ on Tuesday, May 19, at 6.30pm and prizes will be awarded to the top three entries in each category.

Professional artist, Gareth Reid, will paint a seascape during a painting demonstration on Wednesday, May 20, at 7.30pm in Campsie Memorial Hall. Early arrival is suggested in order to prepare for the demonstration.

The award-winning art film ‘Mr Turner’ will be shown in a free screening on Wednesday, May 27 at 7.30pm in the Campsie Memorial Hall, Lennoxtown.

Young musicians and performers will take to the stage in a concert on Saturday, May 23, at 2.30pm in Village Hall, Milton of Campsie. Contact 01360 311944 if you are interested in taking part.

The Lydia De Rosa Singers present an acoustic show at 7.30pm on Saturday, May 23, in Milton of CampsieVillage Hall.

Eight superb singers do solos, duos and a full ensemble on a range of tracks from the magical Dowland to the great American Musicals.

The show will include the best of Handel, Mozart and Bizet followed by Musicals, Neapolitan, French Chanson and a selection from Les Miserables.

Tickets are £5 and there will be a refreshment interval and the fine art exhibition can be perused.

Two bands will play in a Jazz Bonanza on Sunday, May 24 at 2.15pm in Village Hall with Stevie’s Up-town Band and JAZZCo performing a selection of popular jazz tracks.

Enjoy the beauty of the countryside in good company on Wednesday, May 20, when Strathkelvin Ramblers lead an easy and very steady Campsie walk of only six miles, starting 9.30am at Milton of Campsie Village Hall.

You can have a soup lunch in Lennoxtown Campsie Memorial Hall and at 1.30pm you will arrive at the newly restored Milton of Campsie Rail Station for tea, coffee, cakes and live music from Calum Low and Grace on accordion and drums.

You can join at Lennoxtown for a shorter walk and waterproofs and boots are needed. All children must be accompanied and no dogs are allowed.

The Campsie Mayfest ceilidh will be in Lennoxtown on Friday, May 22, starting at 7.30pm and you can dance to the music of Campsie Accordion and Fiddle Club and Ricky Starr and friends.
