The new Scots Language hub sits within the languages section of the Education Scotland website and will feature educational resources including a short animated history of the Scots language as well as a range of materials to support learning and teaching of the mother tongue in primary education and the senior phase.

Alan Armstrong, strategic director for School Years at Education Scotland, said: “The launch of the new online hub for Scots is a fantastic resource for schools to use to really understand the place of Scots within Curriculum for Excellence and how this sits within wider English and literacy learning and teaching in schools.

“The hub will feature an array of educational support materials for practitioners in early years settings, primary and secondary schools together with information about the new SQA Scots Language Award.

“I am sure that the materials, which include an animation on the history of Scots language, features of Scots language including audio files, and classroom resources built around Scots listening and reading texts will provide a welcome range of practical support.”

In addition to launching the new online Scots language hub, Education Scotland’s Scots Language Co-ordinators highlighted the progress of the Scots Language Ambassador Scheme at the festival. The scheme partners schools with fluent Scots Language speakers from professional walks of life to encourage and engage learners using Scots. Visit the website at www.educationscotland.co.uk
