New pastor outlines his vision for church

THE congregation of the Kilsyth Church of God have a new spiritual leader after Reverend Mike Preston was installed as their pastor.

The 50-year-old, along with wife Bev (49) and daughter Zara (19), takes up the post having previously been based at the Elim Christian Centre in Chelmsford.

Mr Preston said: “My goal is to increase community involvement, that’s the main area I want to develop.

“It’s already very good here, but I want to build on the strong relationship with the community for the people of Kilsyth.

“We’ll have the teen challenge bus going out. It’s great because in any town in the country there are issues with people desperately in need of accommodation and support.”

The pastor’s official induction took place on Saturday, January 14, and was well attended by members of the church.

“I was given a really warm reception by the people,” continued Mr Preston.

“The Saturday was a lovely evening and then the following day on the Sunday it was great.

“I think the town as a whole, the people seem very warm and friendly.

“There’s obviously a lot of building work going on, which could bring a number of people in to live which would be great for the future of the town.

“It’s such a picturesque and idyllic location with the snow covered hills in the background - I’m very pleased to be here.”
