New ‘resident’ at Cumbernauld’s Fleming Road

CUMBERNAULD’S silver lady Arria has a baby brother – and he has already gone up on display outside a new social housing development in Seafar.

The sculpture is the creation of international public artist Andy Scott who brought Arria to life.

Mr Scott was commissioned to create the statue by housing association Sanctuary, who have re-homed 30 residents of high rise flats in the development.

The landmark flats which have loomed over Cumbernauld’s skyline for four decades are to be demolished. Meanwhile the housing association has confirmed that it paid £30,000 for the statue.

Readers of an artisic bent will recognise that Mr Scott’s latest design has drawn inspiration from Renaissance maestro Leonardo da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man.
