NLC unable to stop phone mast

NORTH Lanarkshire Council will be unable to stop a telephone mast from being built near a Cumbernauld school.

That was the verdict of Scotland’s roadworks commissioner, when asked if the council had any right to continue its opposition to the controversial mast O2 and Vodafone plan to build despite having been refused planning permission twice.

After seeking permission to build the mast near Eastfield Primary School and Nursery for more than a year, having both the initial proposal and a revised version rejected, a Scottish Government appeals procedure upheld the application. O2 and Vodafone have always said that they needed to build at that site due to the lack of a comparable alternative, but the school community and politicians of all stripes were opposed due to health concerns.
