No sign of improvement at bus station

Passengers at Cumbernauld’s grime-encrusted bus station have been without working departures boards for months.

Broken visual display units, flagging up services on both sides of Central Way, have not been repaired in several months.

It is the latest blow to a bus station which long stands accused of failing to provide any positive impression of the town to visitors or residents alike.

And that’s just not good enough, according to members of Cumbernauld Commuters Association. Members have now written to Strathclyde Passenger Transport about this issue.

Spokesman Andrew Stephen said: “Most local bus travellers know that full timetable information can be found at each individual bus stance. Yet it is annoying that the more informative quick-glance imminent ‘next departure’ is not available on the screens.’’

When contacted for comment, an SPT spokesperson told the News and Chronicle: “We are aware that the information displays at Cumbernauld town centre have not been working during the last few months.

“Our maintenance supplier has recently confirmed that some of the hardware components need replaced and a quotation is being provided for that work to commence as soon as possible.

“We do apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, but it is likely it will be a few weeks before the screens are operational again.

“In the meantime, SPT will continue to ensure bus stop information at Central Way is updated as service changes are made.”
