In what is being seen as a throwback to times past, the missiles were conveyed through the town as part of a test exercise by the Ministry of Defence. They were being taken from Aldermaston to Coulport.

Although the test passed without incident, Cumbernauld Councillor Paddy Hogg has flagged up safety fears about their carriage through the town, after it’s claimed that this happens several times a year, mainly to replenish stocks at the Clydeside base.
