Olympic joy for Brenda

A CUMBERNAULD woman is heading off to the Olympics – to harness her many years of expertise as an official at field events.

Brenda Stephen (59) of Glen View will cast a watchful eye over the endeavours of the best athletes on the planet when they take to the turf at what is arguably the world’s greatest sporting contest.

She will spend four weeks officiating at both the Olympics then the Paralympics - and will be able to attend the spectacular closing ceremony.

The grandmother
-of-two retired from her teaching job at Ravenswood Primary last year and is certainly making the most of her retirement after grabbing this world-beating opportunity.

“There’s a party of 20 of us travelling from Scotland and it’s going to be very exciting,” said Brenda.

When asked what she enjoys the most about officiating she said: “You can be dealing with champions or youngsters who have never raced before. It’s very enjoyable.’’
