Olympic torch coming to Cumbernauld

THE Olympic torch will be carried through Cumbernauld during the build up to the 2012 Games in London.

Cumbernauld was included on the list of communities that will be passed through as the torch makes its way around the UK prior to its installation in the London Olympic Stadium.

Jamie Hepburn, MSP for Cumbernauld and Kilsyth, said he was “very happy” Cumbernauld had been chosen. “I continue to have reservations that the Games will have little or no legacy for Scotland, with all of the benefits being retained in London. However, no one can deny that the Olympic Games are going to be a huge event and I know that people in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth will be delighted to welcome the torch to the area,” he added.
